The restaurant chain Blue Smoke offers authentic pit barbecue at two locations in Manhattan. The new restaurant in Battery Park City is on Vesey Street in the vicinity of North End Avenue. The restaurant was designed by Bentel & Bentel Architects. For the opening of the second Blue Smoke restaurant the owners wanted a natural and yet industrial interior design that is suggestive of the original restaurant near the Flatiron building, without copying it 1:1.
To create industrial charm, the ceiling design is especially important. For the new restaurant, Blue Smoke decided to use ceiling products from pinta acoustic – BIOLINE organic wood ceiling tiles and EXPANDEDLINE/ SQUARELINE ULTRA – since they fulfilled not only the design requirements, but also especially the acoustic specifications. In bustling Manhattan, it is especially important for the ceilings to be able to absorb sound. “We wanted to give the ceiling an industrial touch, to create a contrast to the rustic look of the real wood,” explains Mark Maynard-Parisi, acting partner of Blue Smoke. »The furnishings in our first restaurant feature carbonized steel, oak and an open ceiling. We remained true to this design in the second restaurant, with an ebonized wood floor, open ceiling and an unpolished look. The acoustics and the atmosphere are very good.«
The decor of the 15 cm wide BIOLINE organic wood ceiling tiles in the restaurant is a custom gray tone created especially for the customer. They alternate with shiny chrome colored EXPANDEDLINE/ SQUARELINE ULTRA expanded metal elements that are laminated with acoustic fleeced on the back. A total of 83 m2 of BIOLINE and 111.5 m2 of EXPANDEDLINE/ SQUARELINE ULTRA elements were used. The conduits and speakers in the partially open ceiling are hidden by the pinta products; lamp installations and sprinkler heads were integrated in the BIOLINE panels.
